Outrage Ensues After Cajun Restaurant Uses Caitlyn/Bruce Jenner As Their Bathroom Signs

Proponents of transgenderism claim that if man or a woman declares themself a member of the opposite sex, then they are indeed a member of the opposite sex and should be treated as such in word, deed and manner. On that score, shouldn't transgender enthusiasts be overjoyed to see a restaurant adorn their bathrooms with one of their beloved figures, Caitlyn Jenner? Apparently not.

According to The Daily Dot, Dodie's Place, a Cajun restaurant in Texas, has used the image of Caitlyn Jenner for the ladies' room in juxtaposition to an image of Bruce Jenner during his glory days as an Olympian for the mens' room. Snowflakes have not expressed approval, to say the least.

The bathroom signs were first discovered by The Dallas Morning News’ Dom DiFurio, who claimed the signs stigmatize transgenders and plays into the area's conservative audience.

“Collin County, where Allen, Texas is, as a whole is considered a conservative bastion in North Texas,” DiFurio said. “I wouldn’t consider it a particularly great place to be LGBTQ.”

The Daily Dot claims that the images offensively imply that "transgender women have to look or transition a certain way to be seen as women" and "have to appear like cis women or attempt to pass through a femme gender expression" in order to be accepted as a woman.

"Transgender women who are still grappling with their gender identity or early into their transition, like Jenner in that pre-transition photo, are billed as too masculine to use the women’s room," says the outlet. "It’s a fundamental misunderstanding of gender dysphoria, one that can lead to transgender women being discriminated against if they don’t pass."

"Plain and simple, Dodie’s is turning transgender women into a joke," they continued. "Positioning the images adjacent to one another reminds patrons that Caitlyn Jenner was publicly known as a man for years."

Dodie's Place responded to the controversy on their Facebook page, saying the images were never intended to offend transgenders or Caitlyn Jenner; only to take a swipe at the political correctness they feel has silenced too many people.

First and foremost, our intention was not to make fun of or offend anyone when we installed the pictures of Bruce and Caitlyn on our bathroom doors. It was merely a lighthearted gesture to push back against the political correctness that seems to have a stranglehold on this country right now. We believe that political correctness has done more to silence rather than encourage important discussions that our society probably needs to have. Based on the mind-boggling feedback, both positive and negative, people are having that discussion. However, name calling and words like transphobic, deviant, racist, homophobic, bigot, etc. serve nothing but to continue to divide us instead of uniting us. After all, we are all part of the same race - the human race. Surely, we can discuss this topic and many others without slapping hurtful labels on each other.
